Buckeye Library Master Plan
The Buckeye Library Master Plan provides the City and Library Leadership with a ‘tool-kit’ for expansion of services over the next 20 years. HSS teamed with national library planning consultants Margaret Sullivan Studio to design an incremental road map for additional facilities and capital spending that aligns with anticipated population growth, which is expected to quadruple by 2040.
Planning Strategy
The project kicked off with an extensive 8-month community outreach program that studied existing library services, community infrastructure, and neighborhood-specific trends across Buckeye’s massive 640 square mile planning area. The team engaged focus groups, library staff, community leaders, and neighborhood constituencies to understand the best possible ways the library system could support geographically distant communities. In the end, a formula for growth was devised, specific to Buckeye's level of need, while informed by regional and national standards for library services.
The Master Plan’s recommendations are informed directly by the results of the outreach campaign, including new ways to expand well-loved bookmobile services, construct pop-up libraries using underutilized city properties, and strategies to engage partnership opportunities with local organizations. The plan was unanimously approved by City Council and adopted for implementation in August 2023.
