Paloma Park
Following the success of Peoria's Pioneer Park in 2013, Holly Street Studio worked with landscape architects at Environmental Planning Group (EPG) to design a series of park structures that serve as the backdrop to site amenities, community events, and recreational activities at the new Paloma Community Park. Phase 1 of the City of Peoria's latest community park opened to the public in the Fall of 2020.
Design Strategy
At Paloma Community Park, a series of modest but impactful structures help organize a vast recreational landscape into a legible, inviting public realm. Designed in close collaboration with Environmental Planning Group (EPG), each building and shelter serves a dual purpose: to provide critical shade in Arizona’s desert climate and to orient visitors across the park’s 85 acres. Bold graphics and clear wayfinding give scale and identity to each zone, while bridges over natural washes create unexpected moments of movement and discovery. Durable, low-cost materials were selected for longevity and ease of maintenance—corrugated metal, steel frames, and integrated seating—delivering visual clarity without excess. Building orientations respond to sun angles and wind patterns, offering passive comfort throughout the day. Together, these architectural elements form a subtle yet coherent language across the site, supporting everything from quiet picnics to large-scale community gatherings—all while reinforcing the park’s role as a shared civic asset.
